HEY, I’M SO GLAD YOU’RE HERE
Before anything else , Thank you for being here. Seriously. Out of all the photographers out there, you chose me to document a piece of your story, and that isn’t something I take lightly.
Whether we’re chasing mountain views, hanging out in my cozy downtown Red Deer studio, or capturing the beautifully chaotic moments of your family exactly as you are. I want this experience to feel relaxed, genuine, and fun from beginning to end.
You don’t need to know how to pose, what to wear, or what to do with your hands (I promise I hear that one a lot). I’ve got you. My job is to guide you every step of the way while creating images that feel natural and true to you.
Think of me as your photographer, hype girl, dress consultant, location scout, toddler entertainer, and occasional flyaway-hair fixer.
If you’re shopping for outfits, stuck between locations, or have questions before your session, send me a message anytime. I love helping pull all the little details together.
This guide will walk you through everything you need to know so you can show up feeling confident and excited.
Let’s make some magic
Colours & Comfort

WHAT TO WEAR
Wardrobe doesn’t need to be stressful or overly complicated, the goal is for you to feel comfortable, confident, and like yourself. The best photos happen when you’re relaxed and able to move naturally, not when you’re worrying about your outfit. I always recommend choosing outfits that feel natural to you and fit the overall vibe of your session.
FOR HER
Start with your outfit first and build everyone else around it. Wear something that makes you feel confident and comfortable. Flowy dresses photograph beautifully and add movement, but they are absolutely not required. If jeans with a cute knitted sweater, cardigan, or fitted top feel more like you — wear that! Cozy textures and layers photograph beautifully and add warmth to your gallery.
Think: flowy dresses, knit sweaters, cardigans, fitted jeans, textures, layers, and soft fabrics.
FOR HIM
Keep it simple and timeless. Neutral sweaters, henleys, fitted t-shirts, knit tops, or casual button-ups work really well. Layers can add texture and dimension without looking overly formal. The goal is comfortable and relaxed — not business meeting attire.
Think: neutral colours, layers, simple textures, and clean fitted pieces.
FOR LITTLE ONES
Comfort matters most. Kiddos should be able to run, play, cuddle, and move comfortably. Neutral tones and soft textures photograph beautifully while keeping the focus on your family connection. Please make sure little faces and outfits are clean before your session starts , snacks are sneaky little things.
COLOURS + PATTERNS
I love earthy and neutral tones — creams, sage, rust, browns, soft blues, warm greys, and muted colours always photograph beautifully. Small subtle patterns can work great
LAYER IT UP
Layers add texture, movement, and depth to your photos. Think oversized cardigans, cozy knits, denim jackets, or textured pieces.
A QUICK REMINDER
Please make sure outfits arrive clean, wrinkle-free, and stain-free. I do not edit out stains, wrinkles, or heavily alter clothing, so taking a quick look beforehand makes a huge difference.
If you’re stuck between outfits while shopping, send me photos. I’m always happy to help
What to avoid
Not every outfit photographs the same, and a few small choices can make a big difference in how your final gallery feels. My goal is timeless, cozy, connected images — so here are a few things I recommend avoiding:
TOO FORMAL
Skip overly formal pieces like ties, blazers, stiff dress shirts, or anything that feels more like a business meeting than you. I want you comfortable and able to move naturally.
BRIGHT OR NEON COLOURS
Very bright colours can reflect onto skin tones and pull attention away from your connection. I always recommend softer, earthy, or muted shades instead. Think creams, sage, rust, browns, warm neutrals, soft blues, dusty tones, etc.
LARGE LOGOS + CHARACTER CLOTHING
Large logos, graphics, wording, and character clothing can become distracting in photos and take away from those timeless moments.
MATCHING EVERYONE EXACTLY
Instead of matching outfit-for-outfit, think coordinating. Choose colours that complement one another rather than everyone wearing the exact same thing.
LARGE OR BOLD PATTERNS
Small subtle patterns can be beautiful. Large florals, bold plaids, and very busy prints can become distracting and pull attention away from your family.
BRIGHT WHITE
Pure bright white can sometimes photograph harshly and wash out skin tones. Softer creams and warm off-whites tend to photograph much more naturally.
ACTIVE WEAR
Leggings, athletic outfits, gym wear, and everyday activewear usually don’t fit the cozy, timeless feel most clients are after.
HATS THAT COVER THE FACE
Baseball hats or hats that create heavy shadows can hide eyes and expressions — and connection is what I want to capture most.
SMART WATCHES + DISTRACTING ACCESSORIES
If possible, remove Apple watches, fitness trackers, hair ties on wrists, or anything that pulls attention away from your photos.
And always remember — these are just guidelines, not strict rules 🤍 If you’re unsure about an outfit, send me photos and I’m always happy to help.
